Tennis, Without the Racquet

In advance of Venus Williams' appearance tonight on the tennis court at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center (5620 Grand Drive), the star athlete will be giving her fingers a bit of a workout at the downtown location of Left Bank Books (321 North Tenth Street; 314-436-3049). That's where Williams will be signing copies of Come to Win: Business Leaders, Artists, Doctors and Other Visionaries on How Sports Can Help You Top Your Profession, her book about attaining success by utilizing an athlete's ideals. In this guide the tennis star shares her own stories of achievement as well as those of people including Nike's cofounder Philip Knight, designer Vera Wang and even former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, all of whom played competitive sports and all of whom have insights to offer. The hardcover book costs $25.99, and only those copies of Come to Win purchased from Left Bank will be signed. The event takes place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and cameras are welcome, though the tennis player won't pose for pictures (you are allowed to take shots from the line).
