Words -- Gone Bad

Writers constantly struggle with their craft, refining and revising, sometimes to the point of brilliance — and occasionally to the point of incoherence. Knowing when to stop reworking something is part of the struggle, but plenty of pieces just weren't ever going to dazzle, with or without those revisions. But, hey, you have to get out the mediocre to reveal the good underneath, right? (That's what we always tell ourselves anyway.) The Immediacy Theatre Project must have a similar philosophy, because tonight the group is encouraging folks to share their worst works with the world, or rather with an audience at Duff's Restaurant (392 North Euclid Avenue; 314-361-0522). At Wretched Readings, writers of all stripes (poets, playwrights, journalers, screenwriters — they're all welcome) are encouraged to arrive at 7 p.m. to sign up to read and join the planned performers in this exercise of hilarious atrociousness; the wretchedness itself will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission costs $5 — and, thankfully, the bar will be open.
