The Door Is Closed

Nora Helmer, the tortured protagonist of Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House, wears two faces. To her doting and condescending husband Torvald, she is a silly, innocent girl given to distractions and flighty whims. But privately, Nora is a capable and headstrong woman in possession of a secret that threatens to unravel the tenuous threads that bind her marriage. In the St. Louis Actors' Studio presentation of A Doll's House, Nora's tug of war between society's demands on women and her yearning for independence play out on the boards of the Gaslight Theater (358 North Boyle Avenue; 314-458-2978 or www.stlas.org) at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (April 9 through 25). Tickets are $18 to $25.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: April 9. Continues through April 25, 2010
