The Glory of Work

The American elite have persisted in sweeping the importance of the labor movements under the rug. Gallery Visio, the student-run gallery at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-7922 or www.umsl.edu/~visio) has collected works that, instead of hiding these images away from the public, put them on prominent display for contemplation and appreciation. These are the people who brought us the weekend, after all. The Art of Labor contains selected images from the Bruce and Barbara Feldacker Collection and highlights how common labor is in nearly every aspect of American culture. The Art of Labor opens with a free public reception from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 4. Along with the exhibit, a free lecture on the struggle and vitality of the labor movement will be presented at 12:15 p.m. in room 222 of the J.C. Penney Conference Center on Monday, March 8. The Art of Labor remains on display through Thursday, April 1, and the gallery is open Monday through Thursday.
Mondays-Thursdays. Starts: March 4. Continues through April 1, 2010
