We Salute You

Even with all of the talk these days about the troops and where they're deployed, we still aren't hearing nearly enough chatter about individual servicemen and -women. These people aren't commodities; they are friends, neighbors, mothers, brothers and children who had lives similar to ours before they had to leave home to fight in extremely challenging circumstances. You know, we should be showing our appreciation for what these folks are doing for us. In fact, we should be showing lots of appreciation. Fortunately, that'll be easy tonight at the Jive & Wail in St. Peters (6101 Mid Rivers Mall Drive; 636-922-5200 or www.jiveandwail.com). The USO of Missouri, Inc. holds Patriot Day, a charity event, at this piano bar to raise money for the nonprofit's mission: "to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our military personnel and their families." To help out just head to the bar at 6 p.m. and be ready to have fun. Attendees will be entertained For the Boys-style with live music (and eats and drinks), and the fun can continue after you get home — that is, if you win a silent auction item. Admission to the fundraiser costs $20, and making your ticket purchase in advance is recommended (call 314-429-0013); learn more by visiting www.usomissouri.org.
