His and Hearse

Who says Halloween is the only creepy time of the year? Ghosts are around us all of the time — just ask the folks who run the Mineral Springs Haunted Tours. For those of you out there not getting the adrenaline rush you need from amusement park rides (or from dangerous dehydration from all of the summer sweating), something like the Mineral Springs Cemetery Tour might be for you. During this fright fest, brave souls will meet up at the old Mineral Springs Mall (301 East Broadway, Alton, Illinois) for a wake, after which attendees will pile in their cars and follow behind the hearse — these tour guides are serious! — to the cemetery. At the old bone yard, tourgoers will be treated to a bit of history about the place, and they will conjure up some spirits by way of a graveside séance (just to really get your blood flowing). Then, it's back to Mineral Springs for some drinks and tarot-card time — there's nothing like a peek into the future to seriously freak you out! Learn more about this three-and-a-half-hour event, which costs $30 per (living) person, by calling 618-465-3200 or visiting www.mineralspringshauntedtours.com; tonight's adventure to the other side begins at 7:30 p.m.
