Bat-Signal Over Soulard

Christopher Nolan's contribution to the Batman mythos, The Dark Knight, captured most of the nation's fancy last summer, racking up dollars and roping in fans in enormous numbers. Some people (ahem) never bothered to see it, because, you know, 70 years of comic books have provided more characterization and entertainment — but to each his own. Nolan's gritty thriller features big performances from Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michael Caine, the requisite number of action-adventure-explosion sequences, and a nipples-free bat suit. Frontyard Features and the Soulard Safety Program (!) present a free screening of The Dark Knight around 8:30 p.m. in Soulard Market Park (Lafayette Avenue and South Ninth Street; www.fyfstl.com). Admission is free.
