City in Bloom

As spring begins to bloom around town, we start to see the city in a different light: The blossoms on the trees and the gradual greening of lawns and branches reminds us of our place on this swiftly tilting planet. The same is true for our man-made landscape, as the change in seasons is reflected on the buildings and roadways around town. More than twenty artists, including photographers J. Roberts and Ben Mudd, explore the relationship between St. Louis' architecture and the season's cycle in the exhibit Urban Awakening, at the Soulard Art Market and Contemporary Gallery (2028 South 12th Street; 314-258-4299 or www.soulardartmarket.com). Urban Awakening springs forth with a free opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 11. The show remains up through Saturday, May 2, and Soulard Art Market is open Thursday through Sunday.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: April 11. Continues through May 2, 2009
