Spooky Sounds of the Season

BandTogether says "boo"

Of all the holidays, Christmas probably has the greatest quantity of theme music — but Halloween has to be a close second. Between horror movies, scream-themed musicals (The Phantom of the Opera, The Rocky Horror Show) and the classical terrors (Night on Bald Mountain, La Symphonie fantastique), there is a wealth of creepy and crepuscular music to enjoy between now and October 31. BandTogether, St. Louis' long-lasting GLBTA concert band, traditionally picks the best and most beastly of music for its Halloween concert, with the occasional bizarre selection thrown in for good measure. And at more than 100 members strong, BandTogether has the depth of sound necessary to really pump up the fear factor when the group wishes. The BandTogether Halloween Concert takes place at 8 p.m. tonight at the 560 Music Center (560 Trinity Avenue, University City; www.bandtogetherstl.com). Admission's free, but donations are appreciated — Christmas is coming, and BandTogether has to put together a show for that holiday, too.
