Normally if you were interested in checking out the Australian graffiti scene, youd have to make the long journey to Australia preferably by boat (because its more romantic) or perhaps by hot air balloon (for the drama). But thanks to Peat Wolleager and the trio of curators at Hoffman LaChance Contemporary, you only have to go as far as Maplewood to enjoy the individual styles of Australias Per Square Metre studio crew. As the title of the show hints 10,320 Miles from Melbourne these artists have come a long way to show you how graffiti is rocked down under. Askem, Dabs (Mr. Smooth, whose work is pictured), Dvate, Myla and Sear will showcase their art on canvas, and Myla and Dabs will also collaborate on a large-scale wall piece. 10,320 Miles opens with a free public reception from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 13, at Hoffman LaChance Contemporary (3100 Sutton Boulevard, Maplewood; 314-960-5322 or www.hoffmanlachancefineart.com). The work remains up through Saturday, July 12, and gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 13. Continues through July 12, 2008
