Same Ol' Kids

Brand-new material

The appeal of Canadian sketch-comedy troupe the Kids in the Hall is the wonder and the mystery in everything its members write. Regardless of how straightforward a Kids sketch seems at the beginning, it quickly snakes its way into unexpected areas. The new sketch, "Car Bangers," begins with a woman (Kevin McDonald) inquiring at a mechanic's garage about her car, which then becomes a harrangue about her menstrual cycle, which leads into her discovery that the mechanics are keeping her Volkswagen to fulfill their car-humping needs — and then Henry Ford shows up to talk about the very sexy reason he invented the automobile (never mind that he didn't). It's surreal, it's sophomoric yet sophisticated, and it's delivered in Canadian accents — it's classic Kids in the Hall material. The Kids perform new sketches with beloved characters at 8 p.m. this evening at the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard; www.thepageant.com or 314-726-6161). Tickets are $30.
