End of the Century

Playwright August Wilson achieved an unprecedented theatrical feat with his "Pittsburgh Cycle," in which the African-American experience in the twentieth century is explored, decade by decade, over the course of ten plays. Radio Golf, the final installment of Wilson's cycle, explores the gentrification of Pittsburgh's Hill District (the setting for nine of the plays) during the 1990s. Harmond Wilks plots his run to become the city's first black mayor, even as he's planning to redevelop the historically black neighborhood into an upscale shopping destination. What price progress, Mr. Wilks? The Black Rep presents Radio Golf at the Grandel Theatre (3610 Grandel Square; www.theblackrep.org or 314-534-3810) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 13. The show continues Thursday through Sunday through March 9. Tickets are $33 to $43.
