Ink About It

Now in its sixth year, the Saint Louis Old School Tattoo Expo is widely hailed as one of the best tattoo conventions in the country. Legendary artist Lyle Tuttle has organized another jam-packed weekend featuring seminars for shop owners covering everything from disinfectants to insurance to tips for improving their artistry, but there's also plenty to appreciate if you're not in the business. Tattoo contests all three days award prizes in categories as diverse as best color, best black and white, most realistic and most unusual. If you don't have a tattoo (or more likely, if you don't have enough), more than 50 visiting artists will be working throughout the weekend (appointments are necessary, so sign up with your artist of choice as soon as you find their booth). The Saint Louis Old School Tattoo Expo runs from 2 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday (November 12 through 14) at the Holiday Inn Select (811 North Ninth Street; www.oldschooltattooexpo.com). Admission is $15 for a day pass, $40 for the weekend or $60 for a VIP pass.
