St. Louis County Neighborhoods: Webster Groves/Shrewsbury

Llywelyn's Pub
17 West Moody Avenue, Webster Groves; 314-962-1515 or click here for more info and a map

Happy Hour: Weekdays 3 to 6 p.m. with a late-night happy hour beginning at 10 p.m. weekdays and 8 p.m. Sunday; $3 drafts, $5 well drinks, half-price appetizers

This airy, Celtic-themed restaurant and bar is the second outpost in a local chain that began in the Central West End and has since opened in Soulard and St. Charles. The Webster Groves locale is a laid-back neighborhood place, perfect for both families and solo folks alike. Its long, stately bar, shiny floors and red-brick interior make a convincing backdrop for the fluttering Welsh and Scottish flags hoisted throughout, and from imported stouts to light domestic options, there's something for everyone on Llywelyn's lengthy beer menu. Of particular note are the starters, which drop to half price during happy hour: Besides classic pub fare — chips, pretzels and mini burgers — you can find traditional Irish and Welsh selections, including rarebit, fried Irish pies and Irish mussels. Additional discounts can be found during late-night happy hour, which starts at 10 p.m. during the week and at 8 p.m. on Sunday. (KM)

St. Louis SportsZone
113 Kenrick Plaza, Shrewsbury; 314-961-3366 or click here for more info and a map

Happy Hour: Weekdays 4 to 7 p.m.; $2.25 domestic bottles and drafts, premium beers $2.50, discounted appetizers

If your neighborhood corner sports bar comes with the standard few bar stools, few flat-screens and few bottles of liquor, then St. Louis SportsZone is your neighborhood corner sports bar on steroids — only less likely to testify in a congressional hearing or grow man boobs. At 7,700 square feet with 67 televisions (5 of which are projection screens), this place is huge, and happy-hour deals are impressively cheap. Surpassing two dozen items, SportsZone's happy-hour food menu is one of the largest in town; all items are less than $10, and many are less than $5. Besides picking what television to focus on, your hardest choice might be what to order: At last count, the bar had more than fifteen brands of vodka, four types of quesadilla and three kinds of toasted ravioli. Weber's Front Row
8169 Big Bend Boulevard, Webster Groves; 314-961-4500 or click here for more info and a map

Happy Hour: Weekdays 3 to 6 p.m. with a late-night happy hour beginning at 10 p.m.; $2 domestic drafts and margaritas, $2.25 well drinks

Weber's is the kind of neighborhood sports bar everyone would like within stumbling distance from home. In the heart of Old Webster, Weber's Front Row embraces its neighborhood and its residents: Over the years it's sponsored numerous sports leagues, and the bar often hosts fundraisers for worthwhile causes. Weber's also caters to the thirsty. There are $2 domestic drafts and margaritas, and many appetizers cost $3. Late-night specials start every day at 10 p.m., when nearly all of their apps plunge in price to $5 or less. Game days bring still more food and drink bargains; catch the action on their dozen-plus televisions or play a pickup game of darts on one of the three boards back in the "bullpen." (KM)
