Though Sean Jones certainly is no mere imitator, he does share a few traits with Wynton Marsalis, who was his boss during the five years Jones served as lead trumpeter for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Both men are classically trained and known for being technically proficient. The similarities don't stop there: They each display a strong respect for and knowledge of the jazz tradition and have a penchant for organizing albums along thematic lines. For example, Jones' latest album, No Need for Words, features the 33-year-old's musical meditations on love in all its forms, from personal to universal. With the disc scheduled for release this week, look for Jones to showcase many of his new compositions from the recording during his sets at the Bistro.
