Year of the Dragon

This Monday, one of the highest ranking critters in the Chinese zodiac's animal hierarchy swoops in to take the reins, as the Year of the Rabbit burrows back into the history books. This is the Year of the Dragon, and the Richmond Heights Community Center & Memorial Library (8001 Dale Avenue, Richmond Heights; 314-645-1476 or www.richmondheights.org) will celebrate on Monday, January 23, with its seventh annual Chinese New Year Celebration. Beyond the cornucopia of customary candies, oranges and moon cakes, the festivities will be highlighted by a traditional lion dance, which all but guarantees spectators plenty of good luck and happiness in the year ahead, especially if you wear red to keep bad fortune at bay. The party starts with a preschool story time at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
