Poets for Dinner

Robert Burns is celebrated worldwide for both his original poetry and lyrics, and for his work collecting the folk songs of his people, the Scots, thereby preserving some of the most affecting music ever created. It is for these reasons that he's known as the Bard of Scotland, and all great Scots honor his memory with a special supper on his birthday. Tonight, Burns Night is done up right from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Schlafly Tap Room (2100 Locust Street; 314-241-2337 or www.schlafly.com). Tom Schlafly performs a new poem in Burns' honor every year, followed by traditional Scottish fare (including haggis, "the chieftain o' the puddin-race"), the official coming out party for this year's batch of Scotch ale (with full complement of pipers and drummers) and live music by Duddy Breeks. Admission is free, as are the laughs and wistful memories, but you'll need money for food and drink.
