Dogs on the Cat Walk

Yes, Ludachristmas and Drunksgiving have passed, but Soulard's nineteenth annual Beggin' Pet Parade, a celebration of the time-honored tradition of humiliating one's pet, is upon us again. This pet party makes for an utterly delightful day of serious cuteness. Of course, dogs aren't required to wear a costume, but the pooch-loving onlookers will surely reward the dressed-up dogs with behind-the-ear-scratches and plenty of awws. The $10 registration fee benefits the Open Door Animal Sanctuary, a local no-kill adoption shelter for stray cats and dogs. Speaking of registration, it starts at 10 a.m., which is dangerously close to the Mardi Gras weekend drinking hour, so be prepared. The route starts at the corner of Allen Avenue and Menard Street at 1 p.m. For more details, call 314-771-5110 or visit www.mardigrasinc.com.
