Nomeansno

9 p.m. Thursday, October 14. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

Punk music has come a long way — and evolved into a slew of variations — since its inception over thirty years ago. Just ask British Columbia's Nomeansno, which has forged its own subdivisions within the genre. The Wright brothers' sped-up free-jazz drumming (John) and frenetic, heady bass lines (Rob) sprawl in all directions, while guitarist Tom Holliston's sturdy three-chord assault is the glue that (somewhat) holds it all together. While Nomeansno hasn't been to St. Louis in years, and has only released two full-lengths over the last decade, it still remains as vibrant and warped as ever — and the band's influence on modern punk and prog rock is absolutely undeniable.
