Two-Thirds of A Noun

Mad Art Gallery's Famous Fictional art shows feature some of the more interesting portraiture you'll encounter, what with the subjects always being characters from literature and pop culture. This year's installment comes with a surprising twist; Famous Fictional: Places & Things consists entirely of human-free portraits of imaginary locales and non-people wrought by more than 30 local artists such as Jessica Robtoy, Peter Pranschke, and Sharlene Kindt. Think Bedrock, Lassie, and lonely guns and you're on the right track. Famous Fictional: Places & Things opens with a free public reception from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, November 2, at Mad Art (2727 South Twelfth Street; 314-771-8230 or www.madart.com). There will be a cash bar.
