Gotta Catch 'Em All

E-books are here to stay but they're never going to entirely supplant physical editions. There's an unbeatable perfection of design, sense of tactile gratification, and ease of use intrinsic to traditional books -- plus they're fun to collect. Try doing that with electronic books; it's like priding yourself on your collection of invisible wine bottles or virtual signed baseballs. If you're one of the many people who love acquiring and displaying real books, head to Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com) tonight (November 26) for a Book Collecting Presentation. Terry Koch and Rob Saigh will lead the discussion centering on the various aspects of researching the acquisition of all manner of books, whether they be early printed examples of the bookmaker's art or modern first editions. The seminar, which is free and open to the public, starts at 7 p.m. No log-ins or passwords required, and afterward you can stroll the beautiful Central West End and download a drink.
