Break Out the Beer

January in St. Louis is a bleak affair. Gray skies loom overhead, face-blistering cold weather abounds and even a whisper of snow incapacitates roads. There's not much to do but keep warm and wait it out, which is made much more tolerable with lots and lots of beer. Feel no pain and tell winter where to stick it today at the annual Cabin Fever gathering at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-241-2337 or www.schlafly.com). The sudsy celebration runs from noon to 4 p.m. and features a long list of brews, including Schlafly Oatmeal Stout, Bourbon-Barrel Aged Imperial Stout and Porter, as well as food and live music. Cabin Fever is an outdoor event, so don't rely solely on tipsiness to warm you. Admission is $25 to $30 and includes a commemorative tasting glass and eighteen two-ounce samples of beer.
