Craft a Beer-er Future

Ah, beer. You've guided us through many a backyard shindig, dance party and roller-kegger in college, and we're grateful, to be sure. Yet we've struggled to incorporate you more fully into our adult lives. Sure, we hang out during slow-pitch softball games, and we give you a nod during concerts, but with a nice home-cooked meal, we're all, "Pass the wine, please," and that's got to hurt. All your pain might end after tonight, however, especially if John Holl has anything to say about it. The author of The American Craft Beer Cookbook, Holl shares his beer-centric point of view at 6 p.m. at the Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-862-6100 or www.subbooks.com). Expect to learn how to pair beer with various dishes highlighted in the book, and we're not talking about Natural-Light-and-Cheez-Whiz-nachos types of match-ups either -- Holl gathered recipes from brewers, brewpubs and others. In fact, Schlafly even gets some love in the book! This Subterranean Books event is free, but books cost $19.95 and include a free pint from Schlafly.
