James Greer

[THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO VAN TROUBLE]Fans of '90s-era alternative rock might recognize the title of James Greer's new story collection Everything Flows as a Teenage Fanclub reference. They might also recognize Greer himself from his stint in Guided By Voices in the mid-'90s. But that was twenty years ago, and in the interim Greer has written two well-received novels (Artificial Light and The Failure), he's co-written several film scripts for stars as diverse as Lindsay Lohan and Jackie Chan and also produced the first history of his one-time band, Guided by Voices. Everything Flows gathers eighteen of Greer's short stories that blend history and pseudo-history, and pop culture and pop music (naturally) to open new paths to familiar topics. Greer visits Subterranean Books (6275 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-862-6100 or www.subbooks.com) at 7 p.m. tonight to read from and sign copies of Everything Flows. Admission is free, and copies of the collection will be available for purchase.[THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO VAN TROUBLE]
