I Believe You Have My Stapler

Take off after a long workweek filled with annoyance and agitation, and come laugh at someone else fighting the same daily chain-of-command battle -- all in the name of a good cause. The culturally conscious program Helping Kids Together screens the 1999 cult classic Office Space at 7 p.m. tonight at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; www.afilmseries.com). Normally the group hosts movies on Thursday, but with a film like Office Space it's better to show it on Friday -- the cubicle drones don't laugh much when they have work the next morning. Mike Judge's film stars Ron Livingston as Peter Gibbons, a mid-level guy being slowly crushed to death by tedium and annoying co-workers. An open-ended hypnotism session turns him into the ideal worker -- disinterested and happy. Admission is a suggested donation of $6, which goes toward the greater-good social awareness projects Helping Kids Together and A Universal Design Project.
