Laugh After Death

The Theatre Guild of Webster Groves begins its new season with some good grief in the form of Dearly Departed. David Botrell and Jessie Jones' irreverent dramedy is about the Turpins, a Bible Belt family who experience wacky misadventures following the death of their father. Family togetherness in these solemn times goes awry as the Turpins' matriarch, Raynelle, attempts to bury her beloved husband while simultaneously dealing with the bedlam caused by her unruly children. Fortunately, as the Turpins unravel, their neighbors -- who have their own set of issues -- guide them in their time of need. The ensuing high jinks put the fun in funeral. Dearly Departed is performed at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday (September 5 through 14) at the Theatre Guild of Webster Groves (517 Theatre Lane, Webster Groves; 314-962-0876 or www.theatreguildwg.org). Tickets are $12 to $15.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 5. Continues through Sept. 14, 2014
