Like A Body of Work

White Flag Projects opens its ninth season with a group exhibition that straddles that line between whimsical and befuddling. Shit Like Hair is a bag of goodies on the theme of anatomical analogies and abbreviations, and it features both representational and abstract work on canvas and paper. Michael Bauer's black and white screenprint Baba vs Seger 5 is a stand-out gem with its eerie aesthetic echoing that of an illustrated instructional manual, while the graphic design structure of Math Bass' gouache painting Newz! feels strangely familiar yet undecipherable. Other artists in the show include Sebastian Black, Susan Te Kahurangi King and Ann Greene Kelly. Shit Like Hair opens with a free reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 6, at White Flag Projects (4568 Manchester Avenue; 314-531-3442 or www.whiteflagprojects.org). The show remains up through Saturday, October 18, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Sept. 9. Continues through Oct. 18, 2014
