Oh, Sweet Horror

The secret of The Rocky Horror Picture Show's success is its simplicity. Boy meets girl, boy and girl meet swingin' mad scientist, boy and girl end up in a polyamorous situation with everyone in the castle. A canny bit of casting helps as well -- Tim Curry has done many things and played many roles, but Dr. Frank-N-Furter stands head and shoulders (and garters) above all others. You throw that together with a brilliant score and a witty libretto (courtesy of Richard O'Brien), and you have a pop-culture juggernaut. It's midnight in America on Halloween night; is there anyplace you'd rather be than at The Rocky Horror Picture Show? The Reel Late series at the Landmark Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-727-7271) presents Rocky Horror at 11:55 p.m. Friday and Saturday (October 31 and November 1) with the Samurai Electricians performing as the shadow cast. Tickets are $10, and no outside props are allowed (but prop bags will be available in the lobby).
