Double Feature

Midwestern writers Jac Jemc and Anne Valente have both earned acclaim for their works of fiction. Chicago-based Jemc (pictured) is a 2013 Pen Literary Award finalist for her debut novel, and St. Louis native Valente's short stories garnered her acclaim as the 2012 winner of the Copper Nickel Fiction Contest. You may also have read her nonfiction piece on St. Louis medium/poet Pearl Curran in last week's Riverfront Times. Curran's life inspired a story in Valente's new collection of short tales, By Light We Knew Our Names. Jemc also deals with the border between reality and imagination in the stories in her latest book, A Different Bed Every Time. Both Jemc and Valente discuss and sign copies of their books at 7 p.m. tonight at Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com). Admission is free.
