Burroughs: The Movie

Film student Howard Brookner scored an unmatched coup when he approached William S. Burroughs in 1978 about collaborating on a documentary. Burroughs not only agreed, he gave Brookner unparalleled access to his life for the next several years. Burroughs: The Movie features interviews with the author's friends and admirers; honest discussions about the night Burroughs shot and killed his wife, Joan Vollmer; his addictions; and the relationship with his hard-drinking son, who drank himself to death during filming. Completely restored for the writer's centenary, the film also includes footage of Burroughs writing and his performance as his alter ego, Dr. Benway. It screens as part of the St. Louis International Film Festival.
