This Is Not an Advertisement. (Or Is It?)

This morning's Post-Dispatch arrived with an ominous orange sticker affixed to the Everyday section's front page. Looks like the daily is gearing up to put advertising on the front page.

I've been calling the phone number on the sticker (along with others advertised on www.stltoday.com) all afternoon but keep getting transferred to voicemail. Just curious about where these buggers will go. And how they'll look. (Different font?)

Before you say "Egads!", know that the Post is no pioneer in this area. The New York Times started placing ads at the bottom of its A1 in July this year, and the Wall Street Journal started selling front-page space this fall for $100,000 apiece, according to Advertising Age. Sliding revenues have also prompted papers including the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe and the Miami Herald to sell space on the front pages of their features and other sections.
