Boo Like You Mean It

The Christmas season is prompting some political groups to tap into their inner Scrooge.

Boo Krew, a group of people who gather for the purpose of booing Mayor Francis Slay, are planning to meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Missouri History Museum to, yes, boo Slay at a Civil Rights Summit.

Boo Krew let the mayor hear it earlier this year during Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebrations in which he was in attendance.

"Booing Slay makes it clear that there is wide dissatisfaction and CHANGE could come to St. Louis with the removal of Slay," according to an e-mail distributed by Percy Green, II.

"Mayor Slay has been guilty of abuse of authority, cronyism, fabrication, being anti-diversity, being anti-public schools, not respecting the democratic voting process, and governing more like the Bush-Cheny (sic) bunch in Washington DC, than being loyal to the democratic principles. Slay is NOT a true Democrat."

The group says Slay took a turn for the worst when he replaced former Fire Chief Sherman George, who was demoted before retiring in October, 2007.

Another charge against the mayor: he is disrespectful to tax payers, particularly when he used their money to finance the new Busch Stadium.

"Slay is now wrecking the public school system by supporting a Republican outsider, Rick Sullivan to have FULL AUTHORITY over a democratically elected school board," Green adds, noting that Slay is also trying to intimidate others from running in the upcoming mayor's race.

A phone message left with City Hall was not returned in time for publication.
