Scott Solovic: Thrice Convicted of Raping Children, Contends Current Accuser is "Too Young" for Him

Scott Solovic, 38, is currently serving his third stint in jail for sexually assaulting underage girls. A fourth victim of his depredations came forward only after he was sentenced to prison this most recent time, because she felt she was safe enough to do so with him out of her life. Authorities contend that this child's abuse began when she was 5-years-old, and just one month after he finished serving a five year term for multiple counts of statutory sodomy and statutory rape -- charges to which he pleaded guilty -- of a 15-year-old girl who lived in his Maplewood neighborhood.

Solovic waived his right to a jury trial at the eleventh hour yesterday and agreed to have the judge try his case. He reminded the judge that all three of his prior offenses were against teenagers, and that he "had no reason to do what I am accused of doing with someone so young."

Lookout, Matlock, there's a new hot-shot legal mind on the scene.

Solovic's statement has some truth in it -- in addition to the sodomizing a 15-year-old girl, he has pleaded guilty to sodomizing an underage Affton girl, and he earned his current sentence for jumping a 14-year-old girl in an alley in the 6000 block of Michigan Avenue and forcibly raping her in 2006 -- but come on. When your best argument is essentially, "Sure, I've raped some girls, Your Honor, but I'm not a monster," you're not arguing from a position of strength.

Circuit Court Judge Mark Neill found Solovic guilty of six counts of first-degree statutory sodomy in this case. Solovic was also found guilty of one count of first-degree statutory rape, three counts of first-degree child molestation and one count of witness tampering. That last charge is for the phone calls Solovic made from prison to the girl's family.
