Contest: Submit Your Old Baseball Cards

I would like to start a new feature here at The Rundown, and I'm going to need everyone's help. Not too long ago, it was suggested by one of the many editors here at the RFT that we should do a "Classic Cardinal Baseball Card of the Week" feature. And you know what? That's a really, really good idea. I myself enjoyed an intense fascination with baseball cards when I was young, and I still get a kick out of digging through the old boxes of them I still have packed away in my attic. I've actually tossed a lot of them out over the years, but I still have a fairly large number just hanging around.

I got to thinking about this idea, and I was originally just going to scour the Internet and possibly dig up my own collection to find interesting cards to showcase for everybody. Then, I realized that I already have a limitless source, (relatively speaking) of baseball cards at my fingertips. That's where you come in.

So, what I want is this: If you have any interesting baseball cards, scan (or take a picture of) them and send them to me. If you're a card buff and you happen across one on the net that you think is really worth featuring, send me the link. But what I really want is for everyone who has a big box of baseball cards in their attics, basements, or pretty much anywhere else to send me some worthwhile cards.

You know what? They don't even have to be just Cardinal cards. Cards of Cardinal players will gain extra consideration, of course, for the Card of the Week designation, but things like those old Padres uniforms from the '70s are just too good to ignore.

So, everybody send me your submissions. I'll dig through everything sent to me, and each week I'll choose one card to feature here. Like I said, Cardinal cards will get first consideration, but that's not at all set in stone.

A few clues to let you know it's a winner:

- I want facial hair. - I want polyester. - I want mustard yellow uniforms.

I want some of those old, ugly, wood grain Topps cards from back in about 1987, I believe it was.

OK? So that's what I'm looking for. And, to top it all off, the person who sends me the winning card for any given week will get a fabulous prize. Warning: the prize given out will virtually always be an e-mail of thanks from me and my gratitude. You will, however, have your name printed right there along with the winning card, so that's something, right? Yeah, I know, not great on the prize front. Still, I know that lots of you out there have got cool old cards just lying around, and I would really like to share some of them with everybody.

You can send all submissions to me at [email protected]. You can also send nude photos of yourself, if you like, but I'll warn you in advance, I'm not giving out any sort of prizes for those at all. We'll have our first Card of the Week next Friday.

Thanks, everybody.
