Basso's (7036 Clayton Avenue; 314-932-7818) executive chef Patrick Connolly has left the restaurant and St. Louis, according to a release put out by the company. The critically acclaimed restaurant is downstairs from the Restaurant at the Cheshire and is currently behind helmed by its executive chef, Rex Hale.

Connolly, a James Beard Award-winning chef, had been with Basso for the past two years, since its opening as the gastropub sister restaurant to the Restaurant and Cheshire lounge Fox & Hounds. The statement also said that Connolly is going to Philadelphia to help a friend open a restaurant following his late December departure.

"It was so great to have Patrick lead our Basso team from the start. He crafted the menu -- tweaking and retooling it with every season -- and shaped the Basso experience from the ground up," owner Steve O'Loughlin said. "His departure is a loss, but we are confident the foundation he has built at Basso will carry on."
