Nico Opens Friday, February 24, in Delmar Loop

Nico, the highly anticipated "younger brother" to Soulard's Franco, will open this Friday evening, February 24, at 6525 Delmar Boulevard in University City. (This, of course, was the longtime home of Brandt's.)

As with Franco, owner Tom Schmidt has named his new restaurant after one of his nephews -- after the actual Franco's actual younger brother, in fact.

Franco executive chef Chris Williams also oversees the menu at Nico, which features dishes drawn from Mediterranean influences: Spanish, Greek, Moroccan as well as Franco's signature French. Entrees include Moroccan-style braised lamb, beef daube and pappardelle with pork. Starters include salt cod croquettes and the intriguing pork belly carpaccio.

Nico's regular hours will be 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more info, you can reach the restaurant at 314-727-0200 or visit either its website or its Facebook page.
