The James Beard Awards happened last night, honoring excellence in cooking and food media. The Boston Globe has all the winners.

Stephen Sundlof, the FDA's director of food safety, is leaving his post to teach at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. According to the Wall Street Journal, Dr. Sundlof has been with the agency for 16 years and served as director for two years. The food safety center's deputy director of regulatory affairs, Michael Landa, will take over.

Monday marked the annual rolling of the cheese in Stilton, England. The Guardian has photos of the May Day tradition in which teams race to see who can roll the town's blue-veined namesake cheese down the main street fastest.
