Last year's guest of honor
Tomorrow (Thursday, February 4) Pappy's Smokehouse (3106 Olive Street; website) celebrates its second birthday, and to mark this milestone Mike Emerson and company are cooking up a whole hog barbecue. The lunch special, which runs from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m., will be a pork platter with one side and one drink. The deal is that you donate however much you want, and all proceeds go to Haitian earthquake relief.

Expect a heavy turnout. Last year's party brought out a long line of pork lovers: Our own Ian Froeb waited (happily) for 40 minutes; even Mayor Francis Slay showed up to grab some grub. Pappy's manager Ryan Hanephin said he's planning on 700 to 1,000 visitors tomorrow.

If an excellent meal isn't enough to lure you (wait, why are you reading this again?), the good people at Pappy's will be raffling off three prizes to benefit the Catch a Dream Foundation: a baseball bat and jersey signed by Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright, to name a couple; and also a Pappy's whole hog party for you and 60 of your barbecue-loving friends.

Tickets are $2 for the merchandise raffle and $5 for the party; drawings will be held at 4 p.m. Get there early to get in on all the action.
