We didn't make the top five, ten, fifteen or even twenty, but hey, we weren't left out altogether. According to the Daily Beast, St. Louis ranks 23 in its study and list compiling the 25 "drunkest cities" in America in 2012.
Maybe we're a skosh too sensitive, but we're sort of offended by our ranking. Not only are we third to last, but we're behind cities we're confident we could drink under the table.
So what gives?
The Daily Beast says it consulted market research firm Experian Marketing Services for data on the average number of alcoholic drinks consumed per month, per adult in cities across the United States, which accounted for 50 percent of a ranking. Then it contacted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to learn the percentage of residents in each city who are binge or heavy drinkers, which accounted for 25 percent of a ranking.
In St. Louis, the Daily Beast says its data shows that adults consume, on average, 13.4 drinks per month, with 18 percent of the population classified as binge drinkers and 6.1 percent classified as heavy drinkers.
It's possible that we're too defensive or protective of our place in the grand scheme of America's drunkest cities. We just like to think St. Louis at least makes the top ten. And as for number one, "the" drunkest city in America, which the Daily Beast says is Boston: We'll challenge you to a Budweiser drinking contest any day of the week, Beantown.
