The artisan cured meat company and deli has been nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year from Slow Money, an organization dedicated to providing education and funding to entrepreneurs involved with the slow-food movement.
The award is based on civilian votes, so Salume Beddu is encouraging its Facebook fans (and anyone else who wants to help a worthy cause) to go to its page on Slow Money and cast a vote. The voting ends April 16, and the winner will be announced at the 4th Annual Slow Money National Gathering in Boulder, Colorado, at the end of April.
"It's mostly am entrepreneurial conference," says Salume Beddu co-owner Cary Exler of the Slow Money gathering. "It's mostly geared toward investment and spreading the idea of slow food throughout the country, and how small businesses can work with the local-food movement to advance both of them."
Salume Beddu was nominated for the award and made it through several rounds of voting to become a finalist.
"If we won the money, we would probably expand our product line," Exler says. "It would give us an opportunity to get USDA certified and expand our relationship with local pork producers. We could also expand our premium line and create more unique and special products."
