Bagged "Hearts of Romaine" Salad Recalled

A busy summer for recalls continues. While the salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupes has garnered the most attention for the number of reported cases (approaching 200 at last count), listeria has been the reason for numerous recalls over the past few months, including one announced just yesterday.

Fresh Express is voluntarily recalling ten-ounce packages of its "Hearts of Romaine" bagged salad after a sample that the FDA tested at random was positive for listeria monocytogenes.

The recall applies to packages with the use-by date of August 23, a product code that begins with "G222" and a UPC code of 71279 26102.

Missouri and Illinois are among the states in which the recalled salad was distributed. There have been no reports of any illnesses connected to the recall.
