According to the Illinois Department of Health, via the delightfully named Food Poison Journal, there have been 68 confirmed cases of salmonella traced back to Subway sandwich shops in Illinois.From the official Illinois DOH press release:
Authorities have yet to pinpoint which food item is the direct cause of the outbreak. (Can I bet $10 on the lettuce?)Cases have reported eating at 30 Subway restaurants located in 24 counties - Bureau, Cass, Champaign, Christian, Coles, DeWitt, Fulton, Knox, LaSalle, Lee, Livingston, Macon, Marshall, Moultrie, Ogle, Peoria, Sangamon, Schuyler, Shelby, Tazewell, Vermilion, Warren, Winnebago and Will.
