King Sunny Ade, Har Mar Superstar Coming to Town

Although this show slipped very casually into the clubs listings, it's a pretty big deal: King Sunny Ade and His African Beats will be performing at the Old Rock House on Tuesday, April 20. Tickets are $22.50 Advance • $25 Day of show. Ade is an extremely influential Afropop musician -- he was even inducted into the Afropop Hall of Fame last year -- and his live shows are not to be missed. He appeared at the Duck Room in 2000 (and at the Sheldon a few years prior to that), and so this show should be a revelation.

His revelations are of other sorts, but he's no less insane live. Who am I talking about?

Why, that would be Har Mar Superstar, everyone's favorite hip-pop party dude/actor/songwriter/all-around entertaining guy. He'll be at the Firebird on April 6; tickets are $13 and are on sale now. His c.v. is too lengthy to note here, but he released an album, Dark Touches, last year, and played a coach in the movie Whip It! Here he is performing "Tall Boy" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
