Any reader of this blog knows all too well that some artists skip over St. Louis (or even the entire Midwest) when touring. Electroacoustic musician and multimedia artist Christopher Willits may have been one of those artists before, but he's giving the Midwest a chance - making a rare stop in St. Louis tonight before embarking on his Japanese tour.

Christopher Willits (www.christopherwillits.com) is a San Francisco-based musician / multimedia artist. Willits' music is electroacoustic in nature, characterized by guitar with custom-designed computer software processing and improvisation, which generates a large palette of possible sounds, including melodic rhythms, grainy textures, and smooth drones. From his website: "notes and phrases hook and weave, creating complex patterns of interlocking rhythms, melodies and textures."
Prior to the show, neuro-psychiatrist Abhilash Desai and the Contemporary's Associate Curator Laura Fried will lead an open discussion about "art, perception and the human experience" and "how we perceive and create meaning for what we may not understand."
The event starts at 7 p.m. tonight. Admission is free and there's a cash bar.
