Welcome to the weekend! Barenaked Ladies kick off Mardi Gras this Sunday during Soulard's annual Beggin' Pet Parade. Can they outshine the stage set by Kevin Bacon Band? Only time will tell. Our list of must-see goings-ons includes Garagefest at the Heavy Anchor, Speakers in Code's 4th Anniversary shindig at Plush and Brothers Lazaroff meets Elizabeth McQueen's latest collaboration at the Demo. Take your pick. There's plenty to get out and see.

Friday (February 21):

The Avett Brothers @ Peabody Opera House 7 p.m. | $35-$50 Folk rock powerhouses, the Avett Brothers, hit St. Louis with a three-day weekend bender of shows. Saturday's already sold-out, so catch 'em on Friday while you can. (MS)

MitiS w/ Big Red, Henzo, Seamz Legit @ 2720 Cherokee 7 p.m. | $15 Pennsylvania's MitiS grew up playing classical piano before making his was into the electronic music scene, even performing at Carnegie Hall. (DH)

Cove w/ Dopecopper, Liquor Lord, Animal Teeth, Bathhouse Boys @ Cusumano's Bar 10 p.m. | $5 This heavy-hitter features Cove from Nashville and Dopecopper from Baltimore, bringing crusty, metallic punk to Cusumano's (note: pairs nicely with the bar's pizza crust).
