This Week's MP3 Bonanza: Second Story Man and the Union Electric + Exclusive New Old Lights Demo!

On Wednesday night, steely twang-punks the Union Electric will be holding a release party for their seven-inch-record debut at Off Broadway. Tenement Ruth, Ben Pranger (of the Payola Reserve) and Louisville's Second Story Man are also on the bill. The show starts at 8 p.m.; tickets are $7 for people over 21, and $10 for those under. Post-rockers SSM are certainly worth checking out: Think a female-fronted Jawbreaker, with angular-gang-vocals in the style of Sleater-Kinney and bittersweet noise a la Superchunk thrown in for good measure.

Then, on Christmas night...

...you're going to want to get away from your family. So head to Off Broadway, where Old Lights is holding a belated release party for its album, Every Night Begins the Same. Where's Charlie, Waiting for Jimmy and Harmed Brothers are also on the bill. Head Old Light David Beeman was kind enough to send along a new, exclusive demo song for us to post. Like the band's other demos, "You Decide" sounds full-formed; lounge-noir beats, despondent piano and a wicked guitar solo coalesce for a beautifully sad song. RIYL: Pulp, later-period Verve, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, Kings of Leon's album tracks. This show also starts at 8 p.m.; tickets are $7 for people over 21, and $10 for those under.
