Like the Missouri Botanical Garden? Like free stuff? If both your answers are yes (which they should be), you'll want to listen up.

On Monday, July 24, the Missouri Botanical Garden is offering free admission from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in honor of Henry Shaw's birthday. The garden's founder would have been 217 years old this year.

In addition to free general admission to the gardens, admission to the Children's Garden will be free from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees will also be able to get 20 percent off MoBOT memberships. (P.S. — you must be there in person at the service desk to get the membership savings.)

Beyond the discounts, the day will include a stilt walker, silhouette artist, and balloon artist between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Marionette shows will take place at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m.

History buffs will also enjoy the chance to learn more about Old Man Shaw with a visit to Tower Grove House, which served as the philanthropist's country home. You can explore the house that day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Free admission on Shaw's birthday has been a tradition at the Missouri Botanical Garden for more than twenty years. Other than food sales, all the activities for Shaw's birthday celebration will be free as well.
