Dead Baby Found in a Duffel Bag Was Full Term, African American, Police Say

Investigators have turned up new information in the mysterious death of a baby whose body was discovered five months ago near a private lake in far north St. Louis County.

A DNA analysis has now revealed the child was an African American girl and had been carried to full term, St. Louis County police announced this morning. But they still haven't been able to identify the baby or determine how she died.

Fishermen discovered the infant's remains on April 15 inside a dirt-covered duffel bag that had been dumped behind Behlmann Lake Court, a subdivision cul-de-sac in the Old Jamestown section of north county. A medical examiner later determined the bones were that of a baby, but investigators had been waiting on the DNA analysis for more information.

Police previously released photographs of the bag in hopes someone might recognize the style or be able to tell them where it might have been sold. They ask anyone with information to call the county police department at 636-529-8210 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).
