A Man Among Monarchs

Just as Jane Goodall is renowned for her Herculean efforts in advocating for chimpanzees, Dr. Lincoln Brower is equally legendary (among his peers, though not with the wider public) in connection to his expertise with the science and preservation of the monarch butterfly. Brower, a research professor of biology at Sweet Briar College in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, has dedicated his scientific career to studying this singular creature and fighting to ensure its survival against the threats of climate change and deforestation. Care to learn more about Brower and his life's passion? Show up at 7:30 p.m. this evening in the Schoenberg Theater at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-5100 or www.mobot.org) for "The Grand Saga of the Monarch Butterfly." You can both meet the man in person and get a better sense of the aesthetic beauty and ecological importance of his beloved study subjects. The lecture is free and open to the public.
