A New Day?

How many books have been written about the end of the Bush regime and the onset of the Obama regime? Many, many books — but there's always room for one more, especially if it's by a guy as committed to the idea of change as David Swanson. If you're a political junkie, you might recognize Swanson as a board member of Progressive Democrats of America; you might know him as the founder of the website www.convictbushcheney.org, which, as its name implies, is all about prosecuting W. and Dickie for war crimes on the basis of that whole WMD/Invasion of Iraq thing that's still plaguing us today. Swanson's current book, Daybreak: Undoing the Imperial Presidency and Forming a More Perfect Union, is not about the past but is rather concerned with the future. How do we citizens undo the economic and political damage wrought by eight years of decisions such as the aforementioned "into Iraq" deal? Swanson discusses his book and the need for engaged democracy at 7 p.m. at the Central West End location of Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com). Admission is free.
